Tuesday’s Big Horn County Spelling Bee included 45 students ranging from grades 5 – 8 from Big Horn County public schools and home schools.

Words ranged in difficulty from “burrito” to “force majeure”.

Thirteen students spelled their way into Round 2, seven made it to Round 3 and three into Round 4.

Two students made it in to Round 5 – the final round: sixth grader Sarah Siemion of Hardin Middle School and seventh grade Aiden Graham, a homeschooled student.

Siemion’s final word was “Wikiwiki”, which was spelled incorrectly. Graham’s final words were “Dracula” and “Futon”.

Siemion, who placed second, was awarded $20. Graham, who placed first, received $50 for travel expenses to the state spelling bee at Rocky Mountain College in Billings.

The state spelling bee will be held March 19.
