In an ever-changing health care environment, it is important to be proactive and responsive to community needs. That’s why we are very excited to announce that the boards of Bighorn Valley Health Center and oneHealth of Miles City unanimously have approved the terms of an agreement to merge. This partnership became official as of Feb. 1.
What southeastern Montana most needs and loves about Bighorn Valley Health Center and oneHealth will not change. Both will continue to offer all existing programs and services and, with each other’s help, will expand those services over time.
The merger will create a single, regional organization that improves patient care and health outcomes through clinical integration, increases access to care and services, and positions the new organization to meet the demands of a rapidly changing health care system.
During a deliberate 18-month planning process, the organizations identified significant health care challenges in the region. These include high levels of chronic disease, lack of access to behavioral health and substance abuse treatment, provider shortages and an aging population – all in an increasingly complex and uncertain health care landscape. The merger will boost our ability to meet these challenges while expanding access to integrated primary, behavioral, oral health care and pharmacy; substance misuse services; public health and wellness programs; and parenting and family support.
The merged organization will include Bighorn Valley Health Center locations in Hardin, Ashland and Colstrip, oneHealth in Miles City, and all outreach programs and services supporting numerous eastern Montana counties and communities. Together, as a community, we can make health care more affordable, more integrated, and easier to access closest to where we live and work!
Dr. David Mark is the chief executive officer of Bighorn Valley Health Center in Hardin. He also is a primary care physician who practices pediatrics and internal medicine.
