Enrolling for Medicare in a timely fashion makes a difference

Senior Center News
The Koskis, Babe and Don, sent a donation to the memorial of AnnaBelle Rogers. Babe writes that with sadness they are sending a donation in her memory. The funds will be used for the Council on Aging Meals on Wheels program.
Energetic volunteers helped to decorate the Hardin Senior Center for January and spent time making new one-of-a-kind snowflakes for the windows. Each snowflake is as unique as our volunteers.
New photos have been displayed in the photo gallery. The Arbogasts again have chosen four 2017 Photos Of The Year. These pictures show Rich and Kris Clausen, Virginia Weekley, Patty Nordquist, and Craig Stanley. A beautiful portrait of Betty Jean Seder taken by Margaret Arbogast is the featured Photo Of The Month. Other photos include Shirley and Bob Margheim, a winter scene among the pine trees, and photos of the activities and people of the senior center. Stop in and enjoy the gallery.
A new guessing game is going on at the center. Each week, three photos will be displayed that feature a place somewhere in Big Horn County. Stop in and guess “Where Is It?” The Arbogasts have posted clues with each one. If you guess all three, you can win a $4.50 meal ticket. Guess two and you can win a $3.50 meal ticket. Stop in for fun and then go for a ride to see if you can spot them.
If you are approaching Medicare eligibility, it’s important to learn how failure to enroll in Medicare in a timely fashion may affect you later. Before delaying Medicare enrollment, determine whether your other insurance will pay primary to Medicare and also whether you will face penalties or delays if you sign up for Medicare later.
If your other insurance will pay secondary, it is not advisable to delay Medicare enrollment. This is because your secondary insurance may refuse to cover you until you are also enrolled in Medicare. It also may take back any payments it made when you were eligible for Medicare, but not enrolled.
Medicare questions may be addressed to the SHIP (State Health Insurance Program) Counselor at the Hardin Senior Center, Patricia Fischer. Her phone number is (406) 665-9768. You also may call the Area II Agency on Aging at 1-800-551-3191.
Activities coming up in January include blackout bingo on Thursday, Jan. 11, the Seniors Association meeting at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, and the birthday dinner on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
Call us at (406) 665-2581 to sign up early for the birthday dinner. Roast beef is on the menu.
