Vandals hit local car dealers

By Jason StuartRanger-Review Staff WriterVandals embarked on a spree of vehicular destruction in Glendive Tuesday night.A total of nine vehicles at two different locations sustained serious damage in the attack, according to the Glendive Police Department. Six vehicles at American Ford were heavily damaged, apparently beaten with a blunt instrument. Windows were broken, mirrors knocked off, headlights and taillights bashed in and dents banged into the automobile bodies.A car was also set on fire in the back lot of Glendive Sales in an act of apparent arson. The fire completely destroyed the car and caused damage to the two vehicles parked next to it.Glendive Police responded to the car fire at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday morning, and were called out to American Ford at 7:24 that same morning.According to GPD Sgt. Jake Feist, who is the lead investigator in the case, police are proceeding under the belief that both incidents were the work of the same perpetrators.“At this point, we believe they are linked and we are investigating it that way,” Feist said.Because the investigation is ongoing, Feist could not comment on any further details. He added that it was “too soon” to put a dollar figure on the total damage done.Feist said that though there have been incidents in the past of multiple vehicles being vandalized, he can’t recall anything recently that matches the scale of this incident.“We haven’t had anything in the recent past as far as damage this substantial being done to vehicles,” he said.Police Chief Ty Ulrich said investigators are “working pretty fast” on the investigation and hope to have it wrapped up soon.Reach Jason Stuart at rrreporter@rangerreview.com.
