Corinna L. Smith of Hardin passed away at Heritage Acres on Jan. 17, 2017. She was born July 25, 1923 to Sam and Carrie (Kellison) McDowell at Big Timber, Mont. Shortly after her birth, the family relocated to Hardin, where her father worked on various ranches in Big Horn County. She graduated from Hardin High School in 1942 and attended Normal School in Billings.
She married John C. Smith Jr. (Junior) on June 1, 1944 at the SU Ranch near Lodge Grass. The couple had three sons and one daughter.
They worked for the Faddis-Kennedy Cattle Company for 25 years. In 1970, they leased a ranch on Box Elder Creek in Carter County. The family returned to Big Horn County in 1980 to continue ranching.
The couple moved to Hardin in 2001 and later moved into Heritage Acres. During this time, Corinna became a volunteer at the Big Horn County Historical Museum, where she proved to be a wealth of historical information.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Tim, grandson Brian, great-granddaughter Rhian, and sisters Barbara Hope and Ora Jean Blakeley.
She is survived by her sons; Aubry (Margie) of Billings; daughter-in-law Linda Smith of Lodge Grass; George (Sandy) of Sheridan, Wyo.; daughter Linda (Tony) Schiffer of Buffalo, Wyo.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank Dr. Greimann and all the Heritage Acres family for their support and loving care of Mom.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23 at the Bullis Funeral Chapel.
A reception will follow at the Bullis Family Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Big Horn County Museum, Heritage Acres or a charity of your choice.
