Laurence Robin Ziler

Funeral service for Laurence Ziler, 95, of Billings – formerly of Sidney, Mont. – were held March 6 at Lonsdale Methodist Church in Sidney with Pastor Melanie Martin-Dent officiating. Burial will be at the Sidney Cemetery under the direction of Fulkerson-Stevenson Funeral Home in Sidney.
Laurence was born to Konrad and Mary Magdalene Ziler on Nov. 21, 1921 in Huntley, Mont. and moved to Hardin at an infant. He attended school at North Bench and Nine Mile country schools. Laurence married Dena Moore on Aug. 29, 1942. He worked for area farmers until December 1943 when he enlisted in the Army. Dena followed him to various stations in the Army until he shipped out overseas. He served in England and France until December 1945.
They farmed near Hardin, raising wheat, cattle, hogs and five children. Laurence also began working for Holly Sugar in Hardin in the 1950s, and continued until 1972 when he took a transfer with Holly Sugar to Torrington, Wyo. and ultimately to Sidney, where he worked until retiring in 1984.
As a lifelong pastime, Laurence and Dena enjoyed square dancing and traveled to many dances around the country, making numerous friends. After retirement, they began snowbirding to Mesa, Ariz. for the next 20 years.
Laurence is survived by his wife Dena; children Kermit (Sandi) Ziler of Sheridan, Wyo.; Linda (Gary) Karst of Ballantine, Mont.; Eileen Ziler of Billings; Scott (Lisa) Ziler of Sidney; son-in-law Scott Hedegaard of Great Falls, Mont.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Laurence was preceded in death by his parents, 12 siblings and daughter Diana Hedegaard.

Laurence went peacefully on Feb. 24, 2017 surrounded by family at Tender Nest Assisted Living in Billings.
