Lois Lewis

Lois Lewis

Born on Jan. 2, 1926, in Kleenburn, Wyo., Lois Lewis was daughter of Bruno and Elizabeth Polito. She peacefully left this world, surrounded by her loving family on Aug. 12, 2017 at the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital.

Lois lived her early childhood in Decker, the youngest of five girls. They later moved to Sheridan, Wyo., where she graduated from Sheridan High School in 1944. After graduation, she worked in Sheridan as a waitress and department store clerk.

In 1953, she married Fred Robert Lewis and continued to live in the Sheridan area until 1972 when they relocated to pursue ranching in Wyola. Lois loved to garden, cook and be a mother to her three girls. She always had an amazing garden and beautiful flowers. She was employed at various ranches in the area as a cook.

Later in life, Fred and Lois moved to Hardin to be near their girls and their grandkids. She continued to cook, taking a job at the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital where she worked in the kitchen until she retired. In 2006, she fulfilled a lifelong dream and traveled to Italy with her daughters at the age of 80.

Her little white house on the corner was always the meeting place for her kids, grandkids and great-grandchildren. She lived there, baking and caring for her flowers, until her passing.

Her husband, three sisters and son-in-law Roger Nedens preceded Lois in death.

She is survived by her daughters Gayle (Toad) Nedens, Cindy (Dutch) Purcell (Joe) and Debra (Pokey) Schindler (Jeff); sister Ellen Polito; grandchildren Brett (Holly), Leigh Ann (Mario), Chris (Jessica), Heidi (Adam), Cadie, Rider (Amanda), Brian, Shawn, Tony, Casey (Jennifer) and Misty (Cody); and her great-grandchildren Libby, Sophia, Will, Dante, Carmen, Luciana, Bruno, Aubrey, Cale, Brody, Abe, Ayce, Caidynce, Rylee, Swayde, Colt, Jhet and Sayla.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital for the excellent care they provided. A funeral service and luncheon was held at the E & R Church in Hardin at 11 a.m. on Aug. 16. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bullis Mortuary.
