Phillip George Harris (AKA Phil the Jeep Man), was owner operator of a hobby that run amuck, “Phil’s Jeep World.” Phil started life on December 3, 1938.
He loved to hunt and fish and torment his cousins when they came to visit. Phil spent most of his young life in Idaho.
He met Deanna Butte and they were married March 15, 1969. Then Phil got a job at Yellowtail Dam and moved to Montana. He spent the next 48 years in Montana.
Phil’s passion for hunting and fishing changed to collecting Buicks, then turned to Jeeps. He loved old cars; he could name every one of them.
Phil and Deanna had two children Andy and Alaina; and four grandkids Riley, Jayden, Blake and Jessica.
He enjoyed watching the grandchildren and his special relationship with them.
Phil’s sister Mona L. Harris moved to Montana from California to be close to her brother. Phil enjoyed her cooking and the time they spent together.
Phil will be missed by all that knew him. Forty-six years and five trips to a doctor finally caught up with him. Dec. 28, 2016 we found out he was diagnosed with a terminal form of leukemia.
Phil fought a good fight up to the last day he got up and walked to the door for the helicopter ride to the hospital.
Phil is survived by his wife Deanna M. Harris of Shepherd Mont; Andy Harris, wife Tammy and their sons Riley and Blake of Henry, Neb; Alaina Fanning, husband John and their children Jayden and Jessica of Deer Lodge, Mont; and “sister” Mona Harris and Nephew Brian McMurtrey of Billings.
We all said our goodbyes on June 5, 2017 at the Billings Clinic Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 10 from 2-6 pm at the LDS Church, 911 Wicks Lane in Billings. All who knew Phil and would like to say goodbye are welcome to come.
Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery. Condolences can be sent through www.cfgbillings.com through “Our Families.”
